Are the Legends back in 2010?

According to a June 9 post on www.cantonlegends.com, the team is coming back with new ownership in 2010:

Stay Tuned New Ownership Announcement Coming Soon!

Go Legends!!!

Is it so? Hopefully positive announcements will be forthcoming. If I recall correctly, this will be the first indoor football team to successfully return from a hiatus. Correct me if I’m wrong. The potential is still there to make the Canton Legends work.

That said, I’m not sure if I will end up continuing to blog here. I’ve got a pretty full plate of stuff. If anyone is interested in contributing, or at some point, taking over, let me know.

Four days until the AIFA Kick-off classic

http://aifaprofootball.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=241&Itemid=92 (for information about the weekend, including tickets, an itinerary, and broadcast information)

Just a couple of notes. I apologize if posts are sparse, as lately, news has been sparse.

- The game is viewable on T.V.,  and at http://aifafans.com/.

- There is no AIFA All-Stars roster available. I expect Harrisburg to pull out a win in front of the home fans; I just don’t know how many coaches would send their best players to such a game before the season.

- I really hope this event is a plus for the league in a new market. Best of luck to the Stampede and the AIFA!

Q and A: Chris “Crazy Legs” Kolokithas

Every fan has an “ideal” signing – a star player in college or professional football with significant playing experience. For those fans, Chris Kolokithas is not the ideal player. Nevertheless, Kolokithas comes to the 2009 Canton Legends determined to prove that he is worth his salt as an impact player. Kolokithas, nicknamed “Crazy Legs,” is one of the three newest Legends, signed after the October tryouts. In addition, Kolokithas will be providing fans with a weekly Canton Legends update right here on Around the Turf as the season progresses. Read on to learn more about Kolokithas and his experiences as a new Canton Legend and in the football world at-large. (and feel free to use the comments section to welcome him to the Hall of Fame city!)

Super Photographer: A Q and A with Tim “Picman” Smith

picman2

What started out as “a hobby that kind of got bigger than [he] expected” has made one man an integral part of the Canton Legends. Chances are, if you’ve been to a game at the Memorial Civic Center, you’ve noticed among the usual suspects a photographer. Tim Smith is that photographer, and has been since the Legends inception in 2005. Smith has photographed all of the Legends’ home games and over half of the Legends’ away games. Read on to learn more about Smith – a great photographer and a die-hard Legends fan. Keep reading →

The First Three Legends

In November, the Canton Legends announced the signing of the organization’s first three players for the 2009 season: defensive back Jesse Allen, quarterback Adam Haught, and receiver Chris Kolokithas (link). The three possess a mixture of collegiate and professional experience. What follows is what I could dig up in terms of statistics and background. I invite you to do some more research using the same tool I used: google. Enjoy! Keep reading →

Smith, Williamson to Alaska

Legends WR Victor Smith and QB Jamie Williamson are headed to Alaska:

…Williamson (6′1″, 205) runs a 4.40 40 yard dash and played in 2008 with the Canton Legends, along with new Wild WR Victor Smith, and was rated first in the league in passing and rushing for a QB by the fifth week.

In 2008 in Canton, Williamson was 80 of 178 with 12 touchdowns and 10 interceptions and had 228 yards rushing on 64 carries with 5 touchdowns. He was also a receiving threat, making 22 catches for 250 yards and 6 touchdowns.

Best of luck to both in Anchorage!

It should be clarified, however, that this blog is in no way associated with the Canton Legends…well, other than the fact that I cover them.  Welcome to any visitors who have come across this site via the Rep article. Hopefully I’ll have some good stuff for you soon and throughout the ‘09 season.
