I really don’t know where to start.
I suppose, given the rumors that have cast a pall over the franchise for about a week, it’s no surprise that such an announcement came. It’s logical to point out that a plethora of teams have taken a year off with plans to come back – and have only ended up in the graveyard of minor league sports teams.
I’m confident that, at the very least, indoor football will return to the Canton Civic Center at some point (hopefully soon). This area (and I’m defining area quite liberally, just to be clear) is good for football. I’d like to see the Legends be the ones to make it work. The name and logo are just too good to see perish.
I was one of the original 60 or so who submitted “Legends” to the name-the-team contest back in the Atlantic Indoor Football League days. A tree had fallen on my house in an ice storm days before the team was announced, and I remember being overjoyed to see that there would be indoor football so close to me. The team may not be on the field, but I’ll remember them, and so many others will.
This blog, when I started it last month allowed me to keep tabs on my favorite team and allow others to do so as well. I am glad I’ve had the opportunity. I was looking forward to blogging about the upcoming season – in addition to seeing as many home games as possible. If anything Legends-related does come up, I will post it. But don’t count on anything here for a while.
There’s so many people to thank. To speak in general terms, I’d like to thank the owners and management who put their own financial health on the line, and the players who literally are risking their lives to provide us with entertainment. The players, owners, and coaches take time out of their lives to bring us an amazing sport. It’s really something that didn’t hit me until reflecting on the Legends’ announcement.
Thanks again to those who helped out with the blog (specifically, Tim “Picman” Smith and Chris “Crazy Legs” Kolokithas). Thanks to those who have visited, and will continue to visit, hoping to find some nugget of information suggesting a Legends comeback in 2010. I hope I will be able to provide it for you.
